In addition to our own studies, the ART supports various international research programmes, with a particular focus on long-term monitoring projects. For example, we have supported:

  • Study on the seasonal movements and immigration of Striated Caracaras on Isla de los Estados, Argentina, using GPS-Satellite tags (since 2017; Ulises Balza, CONICET – CADIC).
  • Invasive plants control in the Falklands (since 2015; Island LandCare, Stanley, Falkland Islands).
  • Long-term monitoring of the birds of Stanley Harbour and the Cape Pembroke National Nature Reserve (since 2013; Island LandCare, Stanley, Falkland Islands).
  • Offshore tussac islands baseline surveys in the Falkland Islands (since 2008; Island LandCare, Stanley, Falkland Islands)
  • A monitoring programme on the ecology and biology of seabirds and marine mammals in the Beagle Channel, Argentina (since 2007; Dr. Andrea Raya Rey & Dr. Sabrina Harris, CONICET – CADIC, Ushuaia, Argentina).
  • Study on the post-fledging dispersal of Yellow-Eyed Penguins (2018; Melanie Young, University of Otago, Neuseeland)
  • A long-term monitoring programme on Wandering Albatrosses at Albatross and Prion Islands, South Georgia (2007-2019; South Georgia Surveys, Stanley, Falkland Islands).
  • Study on the migration of sheldgeese in Patagonia, South America (2013-2018; Dr. Julieta Pedrana, CONICET – INTA, Balcarce, Argentina).
  • Rat-eradication projects in the Falklands (2007-2018; Island LandCare, Stanley, Falkland Islands).
  • Migration of juvenile Black-Browed and Wandering albatrosses from South Georgia (2009; Dr. Richard Phillips, Britisch Antarctic Survey, UK).
  • DNA analysis of Norway Rats of the Falkland Islands (2007-2010; Island LandCare, Stanley, Falkland Islands).
  • dive survey on the distribution and composition of marine invertebrates in coastal areas of the Falklands (2007), including the production of a picture identification guide (published 2013).
  • A study on the social structure of stranded pods of Long-finned Pilot Whales in the Falkland Islands (2005-06).
